Topic:     “MAP Testing- What ,Why and How”

Speaker: Christine Capaci

                       Director, Data, Assessment, and Accountability

One tool that schools use to learn about students is the standardized test. West Windsor Plainsboro School District provides different tests for students. The Measures of Academic Progress (MAP) is given to students.  The meeting about the MAP test provided parents an opportunity to practice taking a MAP test and understand how MAP indicates what a child knows.  It discussed how as a parent, there are a number of ways that you can support your child before and after taking a standardized test, as well as a number of ways you can support your child’s learning habits on a daily basis that will help her/him be more prepared when it’s time to be tested.

Marian Dielhof and her team of dedicated moms Jennifer, Lalitha, Sumathi and Mr. Dielhof did an awesome job. Superheroe’s Coin Challenge: 2nd to 6th Oct

Everyone is calling it the best ever fundraiser!! The pennies, nickels, dimes and quarters not only helped us to raise funds but also has helped the teachers teach the children how to add and count money, a life skill.

Thank you to all the parents, grandparents and guardians for helping the little ones bring in their coins.

Thank you Tina Jumani who drove this fundraiser to its success.

Thank you Marian, Parul, Gunjan and special thanks to Tina’s Mom visiting her from India who helped make the jars look like superheroes!! Mamta from Constitution Bank was amazingly patient with us as we dragged the coins in everyday, appreciate it!!

Our corporate sponsor for this event was Indus Bank, Plainsboro. They believe in community and social development and have been very active since their opening. Special thanks to Mr.Tushar Sukhadia for your generous sponsorship!

But the best part was to hear the squeals from Ms.Lewis class when Dr.Welborn made the announcement. They got to wear and keep the superhero capes and Ms.Paterson won a gift voucher for the class at the book fair.

Fall Fest 2017-18 was a super duper success !! Kids were coming to me and asking me if they can have more games, I could here gasps at the witches nose, shrieking at the fish cup game, popping at the pop the balloon game and curious laughter through the amazing spooky maze!!

The adults were perturbed at the donut eating from the string competition, how could such a simple game be so difficult to actual play!! Nevertheless, they all got the donut as the prize!

The Kindergarteners and First graders participated in the spoon and eyeball game, second graders in balancing the pumpkin and the third graders got to wrap their two teachers with toilet paper like a mummy!! All participants got candy medals!! How cool was that!!

But the best compliment came from my daughter who otherwise is very stringent with them, says to me ” Mamma you are the best mom in the world, you organized the fall fest and you are letting us keep the fish!!” Well, to my husbands dismay she has won a fish, and yes, we are keeping it !!

This wonderful event would not have been possible without lots of planning and volunteers.

I want to thank all the parents Arshiya Ahmad, Tina Jumani, Anushree and Navin Tanwani, Supriya Khekale, Rajeev Tyagi, Prajnya Mallick, Vaishali Gajre, Gunjan Khare, Parul Bhalla, Marian Dielhof and Brittany Cole for helping to make this event one to remember !!

Ms. Muzaffar and Ms. Lewis were enthusiastic mummies and loved the Monster Mash Dance by Ms. Muzaffar. Ms. Beaty not only carried and danced in the fox costume, but also won the donut eating competition (psst if foxes are allowed to win!!)

High School kids came to help us in big numbers and made this event hugely successful!!

Thank you all for coming and participating and making this event memorable !!!

Bulletin Board

Welcome to 2017-18.

I would like to welcome you all to another fantastic, fun filled, roller coaster school year! We have a fantastic team of enthusiastic parents putting together events and “fun” fundraisers for the upcoming school year.

I would like to thank from the bottom of my heart these wonderful ladies:

Ms.Tina Jumani, my partner in crime and my best sounding board, our Co President,

Ms. Parul Bhalla, our very effective and efficient Vice President,

Ms. Gunjan Khare, our wonderfully creative Vice Pesident,

Ms Arshiya Ahmad , the Financial cop and our treasurer and

Ms. Marian Dielhof, our secretary with a heart of gold and keeping the team ticking and sane at the same time.

Dr. Welborn, has been our driving force with his enthusiasm, encouragement and welcoming support to some of our newer ideas. I would like to Thank him for being a wonderful mentor.

We have come up with some new ideas and let go a few of the old ones.

We have heard what you had to say, we have evaluated what we have done in the past, and we have brought the change!

“To bring in the change you have to be the change.”

To be the change you have to get involved, to get involved you need to become a PTA member. (* You do not need to volunteer to be a PTA member.)

So why join PTA?

Get connected– There’s no better way to know what’s happening in your school.

Tap in the network– Parenting is not easy- it helps to share ideas, concerns and experiences with other parents and educators in the community. PTA functions are opportunities to meet other parents and teachers, building rapport and discussing issues. Some of the best parenting tips I have got are listening to some of the speakers at these meeting.

Speak up– Because the PTA is a forum for idea exchange and advocacy, PTA can be a way for you to more effectively suggest change.

Witness Improvement– By getting involved in the PTA, you’ll help make positive changes. Local PTAs play an important role in fundraising to provide building improvements, curriculum based programs, and social events, which is all vital to a school’s success. Research has proved that kids do better when parents are involved. Grades are higher, test scores improve and attendance increases.

Be a Role Model– As a PTA member, you demonstrate to your child the importance you place on education.

Benefits Everyone– PTA addresses issues that are important to parents and public school administrators.

So become a Wicoff PTA member, today!
